A few days ago, four activist judges in Madison decided they knew better than generations of Wisconsinites. They erased a 176-year-old law protecting pre-born children. They didn’t interpret the law; they implemented an ideology.
My first reaction was anger. My second was: it’s time to take action.
A Hard Truth About Our ‘Republican Establishment’
My frustration isn’t just with the courts. It’s a deeper problem, and it’s something I have to say out loud: we can no longer depend on Republicans to protect human life.
For too many in the Republican establishment, “pro-life” is nothing more than a slogan they dust off for campaign season. They take credit for the victories, but they fold quicker than a tent when they have to actually defend life. We see it at the national level, and we see it in state capitols across the country where good pro-life bills die in committee because some Republicans value votes over babies.
The Foundational Right
They have forgotten the simple, foundational truth: without the right to LIFE, there is no liberty. There is no pursuit of happiness. It is the cornerstone of everything we believe. Compromising on life isn’t a political strategy; it’s a surrender of our values.
So, Who Do We Trust? Ourselves.
If the courts are failing us and the party is failing us, where does that leave us? It leaves us with the one and only earthly force that has ever mattered: We the People.
Protecting pre-born human life wasn’t born in a GOP strategy session, and it will not die there. It was born in our places of worship and our communities and was placed in our hearts by the author of life – God.
The Way Forward: Use the Constitution
It’s time to amend the Wisconsin Constitution and permanently protect pre-born children.
If we rely on a simple law, activist judges will just invent another reason to tear it down. If we rely on politicians, they will waver when the political winds shift. A constitutional amendment is the people’s fortress. We have an obligation to control government for future generations. The founders knew this, and they gave us the most powerful document written by the people to do exactly that: the Constitution.
Life, Liberty & The Constitution Supersede Party Loyalty
Let’s get something crystal clear. Our loyalty isn’t to an elephant or a donkey. It’s to the bedrock principles of our republic: Life, Liberty, and the Constitution. Those principles supersede any political party or political talking points.
That means we no longer give anyone a pass for the (R) next to their name. From now on, our support is earned through an ironclad, demonstrated commitment to this fight.
If they don’t earn it, it’s time to fund and support primary challengers against the cowards.
Madison and Washington D.C. are powerful places, but their power is absolutely no match for the American spirit that built this nation. That spirit is alive and well, and it lives stronger in all of us, from here in La Crosse to Wausau, from Green Bay to every town in between. It’s time we reminded the temporary employees in the capitol buildings who they really work for.
It’s time to send a message and put them on notice: If you’re too stupid and too weak to protect life, then you are too stupid and too weak to be entrusted with our government.
