It’s now been two full weeks since UW–Eau Claire professor Dr. José Felipe Alvergue was involved in an incident that should’ve made national headlines—a campus meltdown in which he reportedly used physical aggression and verbal intimidation in an attmept to silence conservative students.
Let’s be crystal clear: this wasn’t an argument. This wasn’t a tense debate. This was a public employee losing control and allegedly using violence to try to silence students whose views he didn’t like.
And what has UW–Eau Claire done?
They handed him what appears to be a taxpayer-funded vacation and hoped the public would move on.
I asked a simple question: Is this professor on paid or unpaid administrative leave? Not a hard one. Not confidential. Not complex. A “paid” or “unpaid” response would’ve sufficed.
Instead, I was bounced to the Universities of Wisconsin Media Relations Director, who responded with this Orwellian classic: “Andy, This is an ongoing personnel matter and we can’t comment.” – Mark Pitsch, Director of Media Relations , Universities of Wisconsin
You’re a public university. He’s a public employee. And the public is asking. Their silence speaks volumes. It says: protect the institution, not the students. Shield the aggressor, not the victims. Hope the public forgets, rather than admit failure.
They refused to answer—so I filed a comprehensive Freedom of Information Act request. And now, I’m not just asking about leave status. I’m asking for everything:
- All leave records—paid or unpaid.
- Incident reports and campus security communications.
- Title IX complaints.
- Any NDAs or gag orders involving Alvergue.
- Internal staff memos and emails discussing the fallout.
- Literally anything they’re trying to hide.
Let me remind you of what this is: a test of principle. And right now, UW–Eau Claire is failing with flying colors. I have not heard a single administrator or faculty member condemned the incident.
If a conservative professor had physically confronted progressive students, we all know exactly what would’ve happened: immediate suspension, wall-to-wall media coverage, and a nationwide chorus demanding termination. Instead? We get a weak-kneed press statement and a “no comment.”
This isn’t over. Not even close.
If UW–Eau Claire thinks hiding behind PR spin and legalese will save them from accountability—they’re dead wrong.
